About 4.5 hours up the west coast of the North Island

The route runs north on SH1 through Transmission Gully and past Levin, then onto SH3 through Whanganui, Pātea and Hāwera, inland through Stratford and Inglewood, and into New Plymouth. That is about 350 km, or about 4.5 hours in a car.

Dan counts anything up to about 13 hours as a single day, and he can make New Plymouth and back in one with a load on. Allow roughly 2 hours to load and 2 hours to unload on top of the drive. A big house or tricky access at either end pushes it into a second day. Dan sets the pick-up and delivery times with you when you book.

We know the road. A recent RelocatioNZ run went from Wellington to Nelson, down the West Coast of the South Island, then back up to New Plymouth.

Your things stay on our truck the whole way

Freight and container services can move your furniture through depots and share the load with other freight. With RelocatioNZ, the crew who wrap and load your couch in Wellington are the same people carrying it into your New Plymouth lounge. Fewer hands on your things means fewer knocks.

Dropping something off in Whanganui?

SH3 passes through Whanganui, so a drop-off on the way can be easy to add. Maybe a bed for a student at UCOL or a piece of furniture for family. Tell us in the form and Dan will build it into your fixed price, because he is happy to do a move with two or more addresses.

Book early, save on the return leg

The earlier you lock in your date, the better the odds of a backload out of Taranaki heading south. Flexible by a few days? Tick "Not sure yet" on the form and add your window in the notes. One week is the minimum notice.

Wellington to New Plymouth moving questions

How much does it cost to move from Wellington to New Plymouth?

There is no standard price, because an intercity move can run from a single mover with a part load to a three-person crew and a full truck. The price depends on how much you are moving, the truck and crew it needs, stairs or long carries at either end, and whether we have a backload for the trip home. Dan sends a fixed quote within 1 working day.

Can you do the move in one day?

Often one. Dan counts anything up to about 13 hours as a single day, and he can do New Plymouth in a day with a load on. The drive is about 4.5 hours in a car and longer in a loaded truck, with roughly 2 hours to load and 2 hours to unload on top. A big house or tricky access at either end makes it two. Dan will tell you which plan suits your move when he quotes.

Do you move to other parts of Taranaki?

Yes. Hāwera, Stratford, Inglewood, Waitara and Ōakura are all on or near the route. Put your new address in the quote form, with any notes on driveways, steps or rural access, and Dan will send a fixed price from your Wellington door to the new one.

Do you move from New Plymouth to Wellington?

Yes. A southbound move can fill the truck on its way home from a Taranaki job, which can mean a cheaper price for you. Send your New Plymouth address and your dates through the form, and Dan will check the runs coming up.

Are my belongings insured?

RelocatioNZ does not carry goods in transit insurance. The crew wraps and blankets your furniture and treats it as their own, but cover for loss or damage sits with you. Ask your contents insurer whether your policy covers items in transit between towns, and note any high-value pieces before moving day. Tell Dan about antiques, art or anything fragile so he can plan how to load and strap them.
