The weight, the steps and the seller's driveway
Weight and shape
A three-seater couch is bulky, a fridge is heavy, and a washing machine is both. Heavy items need two movers and sometimes a trolley.
Steps at either end
Villas in Newtown and Island Bay often have narrow hallways and a few front steps. A hill house in Brooklyn might have 40. Tell us the number.
Pickup distance
A Trade Me seller in Upper Hutt with a delivery to Island Bay means a longer drive than a pickup in the same suburb.

Pay the seller, agree a pickup window, then send Dan the seller's suburb, your address and a screenshot of the listing. The listing photos give him most of what he needs for a price. Measure your doorways first, because a lounge suite too wide for your front door stays on the truck.
Fridges, freezers, washing machines and dryers
Empty and defrost the fridge the day before, and let it stand for a few hours after delivery before you switch it on. The crew disconnects and reconnects whiteware, though draining the washing machine hoses before they arrive saves time on the clock.

We enlisted the services of Dan and his Team for our shift from storage in Palmerston North to present our property prior to going on the market in Belmont, Lower Hutt We could not praise Relocationz more highly . The shift included very fragile items and also extremely heavy items accumulated from five generational properties. We personally found the prospect of getting our 'treasures' out of storage after 10 years particularly daunting, however the "Relocationz" Team didn't blink an eyelid. They arrived in Palmerston North at 10am and the furniture had been placed in the double storied house in Lower Hutt by the end of the day. We also called on Dan and his team member to assist with reloading and stacking our container after various items had been re-packed. They also offered to take items to the Salvation Army for us, which we were hugely appreciative of as we were under a particularly tight time-frame. The property has since successfully sold and we will once again enlist the services of Dan and his Team with regard to vacant possession prior to settlement. WOW!! Much deserved 5 stars. Dan and his team are prompt, have very clear communication and overall hard workers. I would recommend these guys over anyone else, if you want the job done properly and efficiently with no hassle, hire them. Moved an entire house just over 2 hours.

Update 06.09.26- I have used Relocationz ltd for my 3rd move and they were great yet again! I’ve used Relocationz for both my moves now and they’ve been great each time! Speedy and reliable, a great service. The second move was done a steep zig zag path and they were so helpful and managed it without a problem! I’ve recommended them to friends and will definitely use them again when I next move. Dan and David were friendly and had great communication too!

Furniture pickups and drops from Paraparaumu to Seatoun
Common runs include Trade Me collections in Porirua, Tawa and Upper Hutt, deliveries to Miramar, Island Bay and Ngaio, and furniture store pickups in Lower Hutt. Paraparaumu and Waikanae are a straight run up Transmission Gully.

RelocatioNZ moves single furniture items in Wellington from $135 including GST, with one mover and a truck for about an hour. How much does it cost to move a couch in Wellington?
A couch usually needs two movers and a truck at $210 per hour including GST, and a short move with easy access fits inside an hour. A small two-seater or armchair can go with one mover from $135. Steps, narrow hallways and a long drive between pickup and drop-off add time.
Can you pick up something I bought on Trade Me?
Yes. Pay the seller and agree a pickup time, then send Dan the listing photos, the seller's suburb and your delivery address. He will confirm the price and a time. The seller does not need to be there, as long as the item is somewhere the crew can reach it.
Do you disconnect and connect washing machines and fridges?
Yes, the crew disconnects and reconnects whiteware as part of the move. Draining your washing machine hoses before the truck arrives still saves time on the clock. Empty and defrost the fridge the day before. Water and gas connections at the new place may need a plumber or gasfitter, depending on the appliance.
Will a large item fit through my door?
Measure first. Compare the item's narrowest side with the smallest door, hallway and stair turn on the way in, since plenty of Wellington villas have tight hallways. If it is close, send the measurements with your quote request so Dan can check before the truck leaves.
Can you take my old couch to the tip?
Yes, green waste and rubbish runs are still part of the business. The crew can load your old couch as the new one comes off the truck and drop it at the transfer station on the way back, charged by the hour plus the tip fee. Mention it in your quote request.
