Lifts, loading zones and landlords: what sets the hours on a flat move
Lift or stairs
A booked service lift moves a flat quickly. A lift shared with residents at 5pm does not, and three flights of stairs in a Mount Victoria walk-up add time on every trip.
Corridor length
Some apartment blocks put 50 metres of corridor between the lift and your door, walked once per load.
Where the truck parks
Loading zones on Cuba Street, Lambton Quay and Courtenay Place fill fast and have time limits. Some streets need a council permit to reserve a space, which you arrange with the council if your street needs one.
Building rules
Many apartment buildings set move hours, need the lift booked and want lift protection fitted. Ask your building manager early and send us the rules.
Protection
Guarding door frames and walls takes a few minutes and costs far less than a damage charge off your bond.

Had a pleasant experience with Dan and his team in moving our 2 Bed room apartment stuff. Quick, nice and easy. Dan and his team were well organised and were in touch with me on phone before whole of the process. all of them looked well experienced and had all the requisite tools and equipment needed for a smooth removal. Dan's knowledge of routes and parking spots came in handy especially when we did not have a reserved parking spot at the pick up location. They also helped the initial set up in our new home which was quite handy. Very happy with the services and the pricing - and I am pleased to recommend their friendly services to prospective movers.

These guys are awesome! Dan is friendly, professional, was quick to reply and answer any questions and really knows what he’s doing on moving day. These guys turned up early, were fast but careful and moved my whole apartment in 2.5 hours including collecting more things from another property on the way. Absolutely legend - highly recommend.

Dan was very helpful and super communicative. I was nervous about being able to move all of my items, as I had never used movers before. But they did an awesome job, and managed to move everything from my previous flat to my current flat in less than an hour. It was a very smooth process and they were incredibly professional. The regular truck is a decent size and more than fit my items. Very nice guys too! And with the rates they charge, it’s definitely the best moving service in the area. Would highly recommend!

We enlisted the services of Dan and his Team for our shift from storage in Palmerston North to present our property prior to going on the market in Belmont, Lower Hutt We could not praise Relocationz more highly . The shift included very fragile items and also extremely heavy items accumulated from five generational properties. We personally found the prospect of getting our 'treasures' out of storage after 10 years particularly daunting, however the "Relocationz" Team didn't blink an eyelid. They arrived in Palmerston North at 10am and the furniture had been placed in the double storied house in Lower Hutt by the end of the day. We also called on Dan and his team member to assist with reloading and stacking our container after various items had been re-packed. They also offered to take items to the Salvation Army for us, which we were hugely appreciative of as we were under a particularly tight time-frame. The property has since successfully sold and we will once again enlist the services of Dan and his Team with regard to vacant possession prior to settlement. Update 06.09.26- I have used Relocationz ltd for my 3rd move and they were great yet again! I’ve used Relocationz for both my moves now and they’ve been great each time! Speedy and reliable, a great service. The second move was done a steep zig zag path and they were so helpful and managed it without a problem! I’ve recommended them to friends and will definitely use them again when I next move. Dan and David were friendly and had great communication too!

How much does it cost to move a 1-bedroom flat in Wellington?
From $315 including GST with RelocatioNZ. That covers two movers and a truck for about 1.5 hours with easy access at both ends. A walk-up with several flights of stairs, a slow shared lift or a long carry from the loading zone adds time. Dan prices your flat from your details.
Do I need to book the lift in my apartment building?
Yes, in most buildings. Contact your building manager, ask for a lift booking for your move window and check whether they want lift pads fitted or a bond paid. Send those rules to Dan so the crew arrives at the right time and uses the right entrance and lift.
Can you move me out on the last day of my tenancy?
Yes. Tell Dan your final inspection or key handover time when you book, and he will set the start time to fit. Book early for the last weekday or Saturday of the month, because those dates fill first with other renters on the same deadline. Saturdays and Sundays are available at the same hourly rate.
What if there is no parking outside my apartment?
The crew uses the nearest loading zone or legal park and carries from there, which adds time. For some inner-city streets you can apply to Wellington City Council to reserve a space for the truck. That one is on you rather than us, and it is worth doing early if parking is tight. Tell Dan where you think the truck can stop.
Will you protect the walls and doors in my rental?
Yes. The crew wraps furniture and takes care around door frames, stairwells and lift interiors, so you avoid damage deductions from your bond. Point out any existing marks before loading starts so everyone agrees on the condition of the flat.
Can you move only my room from a shared flat?
