Your office move, planned room by room

The plan gets your staff from their old desks on Friday afternoon to the right new desks on Monday morning.

  • Site visit

Dan walks both offices with you, counts desks, cabinets and meeting room furniture, and checks lifts, stairs, the loading dock and parking.

  • Colour-coded labels

Each team or room at the new office gets a colour and each desk a number. Staff label their own crates and chairs, and the crew places them to match the floor plan.

  • Packing schedule

Your staff pack their own desks by a set time. Archive boxes and shared areas get packed in the days before. RelocatioNZ does not hire out crates or sell boxes, so line those up yourself or ask Dan about the packing service, which is $175 an hour including GST plus materials.

  • Move window

Most offices move after 5pm on a Friday or over a weekend, so the phones are live again on Monday morning.

Lifts, loading docks and flat-pack desks

  • Goods lift access

Office buildings on The Terrace, Willis Street and Customhouse Quay usually need the goods lift booked with building management. A shared passenger lift slows each load.

  • Loading dock or street

A dock at basement level is quick. A loading zone on Lambton Quay during the day is short-stay and busy, one reason evening moves suit CBD offices.

  • Desk types

Sit-stand desks and big workstations often need dismantling and rebuilding, which the crew handles.

  • Floor changes

A move from level 3 to level 8 in the same building still takes trolleys, corridors and lift time.

  • Staff readiness

Desks packed and labelled by Friday lunchtime keep the invoice smaller.

Three steps to a working Monday

  1. Book the site visit

Pick a time for Dan to see both sites.

  2. Approve the quote and plan

You get a written quote, the move date and time, and the labelling system to hand to staff.

  3. Move night

The crew loads, moves and places furniture and crates by colour and number, ready for your IT provider to reconnect.

The short answer

RelocatioNZ moves offices in Wellington, the Hutt, Porirua and Kāpiti, with after-hours and weekend moves so staff can work on Monday. Office moving questions

How long does an office move take?

A small office of around ten desks with good lift access often moves in one evening. Larger offices, dismantled workstations, stairs or a long carry from the street add hours. Dan gives you an estimate of the hours and crew size after the site visit, so you can plan the move window with your building manager.

How does colour-coded labelling work?

Each area of your new office gets a colour, and each desk or room gets a number on the floor plan. Staff put matching labels on their crates, chairs, screens and drawers. The crew reads the label and puts each item in its spot, which saves your team hours of sorting on Monday.

Can you move us between floors in the same building?

Yes. Moves between floors follow the same plan as a move across town, minus the drive. The crew books time on the goods lift through your building manager, protects the lift and corridors, and places furniture on the new floor by label.

Can you move our office over a weekend?

Yes. Weekend and evening office moves are available so you avoid a day of closed doors. Book early, as Friday night and Saturday slots fill first, and check your building's rules for weekend access and security passes. There is no weekend surcharge, so the hourly rate is the same as a weekday.

Do you supply crates or moving boxes?

RelocatioNZ does not hire out plastic crates or sell boxes. Source crates from a hire company a week before the move, and allow one to two crates per desk plus extra for shared files and the kitchen. If you would rather not pack at all, the packing service is $175 an hour including GST plus materials.

Who disconnects the computers and phones?

Your IT provider disconnects, packs and reconnects computers, screens, servers and phones. RelocatioNZ is a moving crew rather than an office fit-out team, so that side stays with your own provider, and we move the packed equipment with the furniture. Book your IT provider for the morning after the move, so the desks are in place when they arrive.
