How much do movers cost in Wellington?

RelocatioNZ charges $210 per hour for two movers and a truck and $135 per hour for one mover and a truck. Both rates include GST. A 1-bedroom flat starts from $315, a 2-bedroom flat from $420, a 3-bedroom house from $525 and a 4-bedroom house from $735. Stairs, long carries and packing add time, so Dan confirms your estimate before you book.

Do your prices include GST?

Yes. Every price on the RelocatioNZ website includes 15% GST, so $210 per hour is the amount on your invoice for two movers and a truck. Some Wellington movers advertise "+GST" rates, which adds 15% at the end. A rate shown as $190 + GST costs $218.50 an hour. Business customers still get a tax invoice showing the GST separately.

How long does it take to move a 3-bedroom house?

A 3-bedroom house takes around 2.5 hours with two movers and a truck when access is easy at both ends and everything is packed. At $210 per hour including GST, that's from $525. Steep steps, a full garage, a long carry from the door to the truck, or furniture that needs taking apart all add time, and Dan builds them into the estimate he sends you.

How is moving time charged?

RelocatioNZ charges by the hour from when the truck arrives at your pick-up address to when the last item is in at the new place. On top of the hours worked there is a 30-minute travel charge for getting the truck to you, and no charge for the drive home from your new place. Moves outside Wellington are charged from our base. The clock runs faster than you'd like when boxes aren't packed or the truck has to park down the road.

Is there a minimum charge or call-out fee?

The minimum charge is one hour and there is no call-out fee. That first hour costs $135 including GST with one mover and a truck, or $210 with two movers. A single couch across Wellington City or a washing machine up to a Kelburn flat usually fits inside it. After the first hour, time is charged in 30 minute blocks.

What makes a move cost more?

You pay for time, so anything that slows the crew adds cost. In Wellington the usual culprits are stairs and steep paths, no parking near the door, apartment lifts that need booking, long shared driveways and furniture that has to come apart. Flag these in the quote form and Dan builds them into your estimate, so the final bill matches what you expected.

How do I get a moving quote?

Fill in the 3-step form at relocationz.co.nz/get-a-quote/. Tell us what you're moving, the suburbs at each end, your date and anything tricky, such as stairs or no parking. It takes under a minute. Dan replies within 1 working day, usually sooner, with a GST-inclusive estimate. Prefer to talk it through? Call Dan on 027 364 9590.

How far ahead should I book?

Book as soon as you know your date. Month-end dates are busy for Wellington rental moves, and weekends go early. Intercity moves need at least one week of notice so Dan can plan the route and, for South Island trips, the ferry booking. If your date isn't fixed yet, tick "Not sure yet" in the quote form and Dan will talk you through the options.

Do you move on weekends or after hours?

Business moves can run after hours or over a weekend, so offices and shops keep trading. We work Saturdays and Sundays at the same hourly rate, with no weekend surcharge. Pick your date in the quote form and Dan will confirm whether the truck is free.

How do I pay for my move?

You can pay by bank transfer, in cash, or on invoice after the move. Your invoice lists the hours worked, the hourly rate and the GST included, so you can check it against your estimate. Dan explains the payment terms when he confirms your booking, well before moving day. Questions about your invoice go straight to Dan on 027 364 9590, not an accounts department. Intercity moves and larger jobs need a 50% deposit to hold the date.

Do I need to pack before the movers arrive?

It keeps the bill down, so have everything boxed, taped and labelled with its room before the truck turns up. Packing on the clock costs $210 an hour with two movers. If you would rather hand it over, RelocatioNZ does offer a packing service at $175 an hour including GST, with materials on top. Loose items such as lamps, pot plants, bathroom cabinet contents and the stuff under the sink need to go in boxes too. Strip the beds on the morning of the move.

Will you take apart and rebuild furniture?

Yes, on request. Tell Dan when you book and the crew will take apart beds, tables and flat-pack furniture that won't fit through a doorway, then put them back together at the new place. It is not automatic, so it needs to be asked for up front. That time is charged at the normal hourly rate. Put the screws and bolts in a labelled bag taped to the frame, and mention big pieces in the quote form so the crew brings the right tools.

Can you handle stairs, hills and apartments?

Yes. Wellington is steep, and plenty of RelocatioNZ moves start at the top of the steps in Brooklyn, Kelburn or Mt Victoria. Stairs add time rather than a separate surcharge. For apartments in Te Aro or Thorndon, book the service lift and a loading zone with your building manager ahead of moving day, and tell Dan the floor number in the quote form.

Are my belongings insured during the move?

RelocatioNZ does not carry goods in transit insurance. The crew wraps and blankets your furniture and treats it as their own, but cover for loss or damage sits with you, so it is worth ringing your own insurer before moving day. Many contents policies cover your things during a house move, and some will extend to it if you ask. List valuable or fragile items, such as artwork, antiques or a TV without its box, in the quote form notes so Dan can plan how they travel.

Do you move from Wellington to other cities?

Yes. RelocatioNZ drives intercity moves from Wellington to Palmerston North, Whanganui, New Plymouth, Napier, Hastings, Taupō, Tauranga, Hamilton and Auckland. South Island moves cross Cook Strait to Picton, then carry on to Blenheim, Nelson, the West Coast or Christchurch. Recent runs include Wellington to Nelson, Wellington to Picton and the West Coast to New Plymouth. There is no fixed timetable, and Dan moves anywhere in the country, so ask even if your town is not listed. Every intercity move gets a fixed price quote.

How much does an intercity move cost?

Intercity moves are priced as a fixed quote instead of by the hour. Dan works it out from the size of the load, the distance, the ferry fare for South Island trips and whether a backload is possible. Send your details through the quote form and you'll get a fixed price within 1 working day. There is no published from price for intercity, because the same route can run from one mover with a part load to a three-person crew and a full truck.

What is a backload, and can it save me money?

A backload is a paid load that fills the truck on its way home from another job. If Dan already has a truck heading to Nelson, New Plymouth or Auckland, a move back towards Wellington along the same road can cost less than a dedicated trip. Tell us how flexible your dates are in the quote form and ask about backload rates.

How do South Island moves cross Cook Strait?

Dan books the ferry, on either Interislander or Bluebridge depending on the sailing, and the truck crosses Cook Strait between Wellington and Picton with your belongings loaded and secured inside. The ferry fare is built into your fixed quote. From Picton the same truck carries on to Blenheim, Nelson, the West Coast or Christchurch, so nothing gets unloaded and reloaded along the way.

Do you move offices and shops?

Yes. RelocatioNZ moves small offices, shops and retail fit-outs around the Wellington region, and has moved libraries, warehouses and schools. Dan visits the site first, then quotes. Moves can run after hours or over a weekend so you keep trading. Prices include GST, and your tax invoice shows the GST separately so a GST-registered business can claim it back.

Do business moves include GST?

Yes. Every RelocatioNZ price includes GST, including business moves. If your business is GST-registered, your tax invoice shows the GST component separately so you can claim it in your GST return. For example, $210 per hour including GST is $182.61 plus $27.39 GST. One mover and a truck at $135 per hour is $117.39 plus $17.61 GST.

How do you plan an office move?

Dan starts with a site visit to count desks, check lifts, loading bays and parking, and agree a moving window. You get a quote and a plan. Crates and furniture get colour-coded labels so each item lands in the right room at the new office. The crew can move after hours or on a weekend so your team is back at their desks on Monday.
